Steven J. Wernick Quoted in Miami Herald Regarding Bakehouse Art Complex Plans for Artist Housing
Day Pitney Miami Land Use Partner Steven Wernick was featured in the Miami Herald article, “Wynwood Pushed Artists Out. A Neighborhood Arts Complex Wants to Build Them a Home.”
The article discusses the proposed revival plan of the Bakehouse Art Complex in Wynwood, Miami’s hip urban district, that would provide a permanent residential foothold by building affordable apartments on the campus for artists. This zoning plan is part of a larger initiative called the Wynwood Norte Neighborhood Revitalization District which was approved in 2021 by the Miami commission and it allows the Bakehouse, zoned for civic uses, to add apartments and artistic businesses.
Wernick commented, “The Bakehouse has been an anchor for the neighborhood, and it can now become an even more integral part of the neighborhood and continue pulling people together. It’s that kind of institution that’s key to its present and will be central to what’s to come in the future.”
