OBBBA boots estate and gift planning opportunities

Day Pitney Trusts and Estates Partner Tasha Dickinson was featured in an Accounting Today article discussing the estate and gift planning opportunities created by the new One Big Beautiful Bill Act. She explained that the law “permanently” sets the estate and gift tax exemption at $15 million per person and raises the generation-skipping transfer tax exemption, giving individuals greater flexibility for lifetime gifting and trust strategies.

While the urgency to act before 2026 has eased, Dickinson cautioned that the unpredictable nature of tax laws makes it important to continue planning. “The message to clients is, even though you may have a little bit more time, it doesn’t mean that you should shelve the planning that you might otherwise be thinking of doing, because it can all change very quickly.”
