Day Pitney LLP is seeking an associate with a minimum of two years of experience in real estate litigation or commercial litigation to join our growing team in Parsippany, NJ.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with a dynamic, highly active team on a wide variety of real estate litigation matters, including commercial lease litigation, commercial foreclosures, commercial real estate contract disputes, title disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, construction litigation, environmental disputes, and prerogative writ matters and zoning appeals. 

We are looking for candidates with New Jersey litigation experience, exceptional writing skills, and the motivation, drive, curiosity, and resourcefulness to learn quickly and fully immerse themselves in the work of Day Pitney's active and dedicated real estate litigation team.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with various aspects of real estate litigation or complex commercial litigation and familiarity with the New Jersey state courts.  We welcome candidates who are eager to take on significant responsibility and challenging work, including drafting and arguing pleadings, motions and briefs; handling complex real estate and land use disputes, including prerogative writ actions; taking and defending depositions; legal research and discovery; appearing in court; day-to-day case management; and participation in trial preparation.  Experience with New Jersey land-use, zoning, affordable housing, and redevelopment laws is a plus.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated New Jersey litigation experience; real estate litigation experience and the ability to manage complex commercial real estate matters are a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong courtroom advocacy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, business-minded approach
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and client service skills
  • Self-motivated, driven, resourceful, and able to thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Commitment to learning and developing into an integral member of New Jersey real estate litigation and complex commercial litigation practice
  • New Jersey appellate clerkship experience a plus
  • Admission to practice law in New Jersey is required (dual admission in New York is a plus)
