Employee use of ‘shadow AI' poses significant risks for companies
Day Pitney Counsel Laura Land Himelstein was featured in the Compliance Week article, “Employee use of ‘shadow AI’ poses significant risks for companies,” where she discussed how companies can proactively manage and mitigate the risks of unauthorized AI use in the workplace.
In her comments, Himelstein emphasized the need to update existing approval processes to explicitly include AI tools and address shadow AI, as well as IT’s role in monitoring and configuring AI functionality on enterprise platforms, such as Microsoft Office and Zoom, before deployment to the workforce. She also recommended maintaining a regularly updated list of approved AI tools and use cases to promote transparency and reduce use of unauthorized AI.
