Day Pitney Stamford Partner Margaret St. John Meehan Elected as an ACTEC Fellow

Day Pitney LLP is proud to announced that Stamford Partner Margaret St. John Meehan has been elected as a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), one of the most prestigious honors in the trusts and estates field. The firm now has 15 attorneys with this distinction, which recognizes exceptional service, scholarship, and commitment to the profession. Meehan’s election was confirmed at the 2025 ACTEC Fall Meeting by the Board of Regents.

ACTEC is a national, nonprofit association of approximately 2,400 lawyers and law professors from throughout the United States and abroad. ACTEC members (Fellows) are peer-elected on the basis of professional reputation and expertise in the preparation of wills and trusts, estate planning, probate, trust administration and related practice areas. The College’s mission includes the improvement and reform of probate, trust and tax laws and procedures and professional practice standards. ACTEC frequently offers technical comments with regard to legislation and regulations but does not take positions on matters of policy or political objectives. Meehan focuses her practice on providing comprehensive estate, tax, and wealth transfer planning for high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, and family offices. Her work encompasses every aspect of estate planning—from structuring sophisticated trusts and gifts to refining existing vehicles to enhance tax efficiency, governance, and flexibility. She also oversees all phases of estate administration, including probate, estate tax return preparation, and audit representation, and frequently collaborates with investment advisors, accountants, and fiduciaries to deliver coordinated, results-driven advice.

She counsels a diverse and distinguished clientele—among them artists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, philanthropists, financial professionals, and principals in the private equity and venture capital sectors—on complex planning matters. Meehan also provides strategic guidance to family offices and their principals on governance, structuring, and integrated tax, philanthropic, and estate planning solutions tailored to their long-term objectives.

Meehan earned her B.A., magna cum laude, from Marist College and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Quinnipiac University School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York.
