Day Pitney Named 2025 Pro Bono Leader for Justice by the Greater Hartford Legal Aid Foundation
Day Pitney LLP is proud to announce that it has been named the 2025 Pro Bono Leader for Justice by the Greater Hartford Legal Aid (GHLA) Foundation, a distinction that honors the firm’s exceptional, long-standing partnership with GHLA and its unwavering commitment to providing equal access to justice. The award was presented to the firm on September 17 at GHLA’s annual Celebrating Leaders for Justice Gala, which shines a spotlight on law firms, corporations, and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advancing justice for underserved communities.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from GHLA,” said Erick Sandler, Managing Partner of Day Pitney’s Hartford office. “This award reflects the dedication and skill our attorneys bring to pro bono work that drives meaningful, lasting change. It has been a privilege to collaborate with GHLA over the years, and we remain committed to serving those in need across the communities we are proud to support.”
A central example of Day Pitney’s pro bono impact is its leadership in a federal lawsuit on behalf of subsidized housing tenants. Working as co-counsel with GHLA, the Day Pitney litigation team on this case includes Erick Sandler, Cait Barrett, Emily Ferriter Russo, Lauren Pipenbacher, Valmir Magjuni, and Kathi Cohun, whose hard work and dedication reflect the firm’s strong commitment to pro bono service and to achieving meaningful outcomes for vulnerable communities.
For more than two decades, Day Pitney has partnered with GHLA through a wide range of collaborations, contributions, and service initiatives aimed at advocating for economically disadvantaged individuals and families across Connecticut.
Since 1958, GHLA has increased access to the courts, advocated for fairness in the application of the law, and broken down barriers and improved systems while practicing preventative law. Each year, GHLA’s Board of Directors selects the Pro Bono Leader for Justice honoree based on demonstrated impact, commitment to equal justice, and meaningful collaboration with the organization.
